First things first, whenever you are planning on organization and storage in any space, any room, and in any situation, I would always recommend taking out the most important tools of all time; pen and paper.

Important questions to think about before organizing a tiny bathroom:

What is the main problem with my bathroom?
What could I do to reduce this problem?

► In my example above, the main problem is the size and lack of storage.
Could I possibly do my makeup in the bedroom and this way save the trouble of storing the makeup and the hairdryer in the bathroom?

What are the primary and secondary purposes of this room?
► When you know the main function of the room, you know what you need to store there.
List in order the most important items you have to store in the room and cannot be moved anywhere else.

For example, you definitely want to keep your toilet roll in the bathroom/toilet, but how about towels, would somewhere else in the house be more space for them? I know it is not the most practical to go to get a fresh towel from the bedroom, but the humidity from the shower in this example is not the best for towels, and they may start to smell a bit musty.

Where is unused space left in your room?
► In my example an empty space next to the door and above the toilet was unused. Write down all your storage possibilities and connect them with the items you just wrote down.

And these are the ideas I came up with for this bathroom. If you make the plans properly, you will make sure that you have storage for everything you need and that there won’t be any unexpected issues later. Obviously, in this example the bathroom is tiny, but the same principle goes with any room in the house.

Right, said Fred! Let’s have a look at different ideas on how to save space in your small bathroom.

1 – Hang towels over the door

I really like towel hangers like these, as you can hang your towels as flat as possible. If you just hang them from a hook, they don’t have time to dry properly and might cause some mold and mildew issues. Behind the door is a great place to hang them as it is a flat surface with otherwise fairly limited possibilities to utilize it.

2 – Build over the toilet storage

There are a few handy ways of doing this; you can just install some shelves or buy a ready-made shelving unit like this, but this could be easily DIYed – just get a normal bookshelf, remove the bottom shelves, and voila, perfect over-the-toilet-shelf.

3 – Get a trolley

Trolleys are handy as you can always move them closer to you if needed. This one is from IKEA, but as they became hugely popular over the last few years, you can pretty much find them everywhere nowadays.
