I love color and pattern, and for years I used to buy beautifully patterned, colorful bedding sets. But then I did something I thought I would never, ever do – I bought a set of crisp, white bedding, and I haven’t looked back since. I really think you should give white bedding a chance too and here’s why!

1 – It goes with everything

It doesn’t matter if your taste is eclectic, romantic, vintage, modern, farmhouse or boho – white bedding will go with all of these styles. No matter if your taste changes later – your white bedding will always work and this way saves you (a lot of) money.

Even though it goes with any style, it is definitely not boring! You can accessorize your white bedding anyway you want. Get different color throws and cushions or if you like more than one pillow, the other pillowcase could be colorful.

In fact, it is easier to get bored of patterned duvet cover than plain, and with white bedding you can get really playful with color.

Here’s what happened with my favorite throw + white bedding versus patterned bedding:

The first photo makes me want to go back to bed and the next one mainly scream.

2 – It is like fresh canvas

You can build the bedroom around the bed anyway you like. Like big patterned wallpaper? White bedding goes with it. Bright blue velvet headboard? White bedding goes with it. Like soft, velvety mustard curtains? White bedding will go with it.

3 – It makes your bedroom look more luxurious and timeless

It is no secret why hotels almost always opt for white bedding. White is the color of cleanliness, calm and luxury. When you see that your sheets are pristine white when you go into hotel, you can feel more reassured that they are clean.

If you read interior design magazines, you’ll quickly notice that most of the beds have white bedding in them – most designers trust this forever classic. It also helps the bedroom look less cluttered and that way more peaceful.

4 – It’s cheaper to buy better quality

If you are working on a tighter budget, it is more likely that you’ll find a good quality set cheaper in white than in color. Or even if you buy a cheap white set, it won’t start to fade like it’s colored friends will and nothing screams “cheap” more than faded bedding.

For example, one of my favorite sets is IKEA’s ÄNGSLILJA set. It’s fairly cheap, but it feels lovely against skin and looks always really fresh and crisp.

5 – All bedding matches

If all of your bedding matches, you’ll avoid “where’s that one pillowcase” hunt. Say goodbye to mismatching mess. Even your linen cupboard will look tidier.

6 – It’s easier to clean than colored bedding (yes, really!)

If you think about how many people sleep in hotel bedding and make a mess, and they still look pristine, believe me that the white bedding is soo much easier to keep clean than colored.

You can wash your white bedding in higher temperatures, as you don’t have to worry about losing the color. If the stains are tough, you can use whitening products, which is impossible with colored bedding.

7 – If you want color later, you can always dye them

By the time you decide you want more color or the bedding has got a yellow tint (this won’t happen if you take care of it the right way – to avoid detergent build-up which causes the yellowing wash them sometimes with baking soda), you can always dye your set to any color you like.

8 – Your face will thank you later

If you have a white bedding, you can’t skip the make up cleaning routine however tired you are. Believe me, your skin will thank you later.

9 – Brightens up the whole space

White is a good “color” as it reflects natural light efficiently, therefore brightening up the whole bedroom making it appear bigger.
