If you are in need of some extra money, selling your handmade crafts is a fun way to earn it. Nothing stops you from turning it into a full-time job either. There are many great places you can sell them in, like online on Etsy and eBay, or you could sell them in fairs and flea markets. If you have a farm or artisan shop close to you, sometimes they may take your crafts in to sell with a commission.

So what makes a craft good to sell? There are tons and tons of different craft ideas out there, but not all of them are suitable for selling. As lovely as a finger painting on a paper plate is, unfortunately, it is not something that really sells.
♦♦♦ For a craft to sell, it has to
- be aesthetically pleasing
- have a purpose or function
- be quality make
- be easy enough to make in batches or another way time-wise feasible
- be profitable – materials, your workload, and the final asking price should be in harmony. Think how much people would be willing to pay, how long would it take to make one, and how much do you want as a profit after taking off the cost of the materials.
I know some of these ideas may feel boring to you – why should I sew oven mitts if I want to make little hats for cats? Those crafts should really be left for your own entertainment, as to maximize your profits you need to make items that are in demand – and unfortunately boring, everyday items usually are.
One way to get an even better return for your investment, is to make personalized items. For example, the etched kitchenware I’ll be listing below would make a great personalized gift and you can ask more.
